Hot Chocolate

Nostalgia In A Mug

Ingredients

3 Cups of Milk

1/4 C Unsweetened Cocoa Powder

4 oz Chopped Semi-Sweet Chocolate (or chips)

1/4 C Brown Sugar

1/2 Tsp Vanilla Extract

1.5 oz Peppermint Schnapps - per 8oz of hot chocolate (Optional)

Candy cane and whipped cream for garnish

Preparation

Is there a better winter drink than a cup of hot chocolate? This is easy to make, and it refrigerates/re-heats very well. Feel free to customize it however you like with marshmallows, different types of chocolate, or even spices such as cinnamon. I like whipped cream, chocolate shavings and crushed up peppermint!

  1. Place a medium saucepan over low heat (we want the milk to gradually get hot but not boil). Add the milk and cocoa powder and whisk. It will be clumpy and hard to dissolve at first, but as the milk heats up, it will come together.

  2. Once the cocoa powder is starting to dissolve, add the chocolate and sugar and whisk until completely melted and homogenous.

  3. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

  4. Add 1.5 oz of schnapps to a mug, fill with a cup of your hot chocolate, and top with your favorite toppings. Enjoy!
